Morse Industries Unveils The World's First Stainless, Screwless Rub Rail at IBEX 2003
VirginRail© Is An Easier To Install, Better Looking Rub Rail
VirginRail© is Simple. Over a year in development, VirginRail© simplifies one of the most tedious tasks in boatbuilding- rub rail installation. While the process of installing traditional rubrail consists of aligning, drilling and setting screws every 6 inches, VirginRail© stainless effortlessly snaps into place without the use of screws.
VirginRail© is made from 316 stainless steel co-extruded with UV protected, exterior grade vinyl. A standard vinyl base is installed on the boat and the stainless locking insert securely snaps into place. VirginRail© is provided in a coil and can be custom sized to fit each model of boat. Compared with traditional rub rails, this means less waste. A convenient tear strip protects the polished stainless surface during installation and boat construction.
"Our customers told us that installation of rub rails was time consuming and the exposed screws created aesthetic problems," stated Steve Klein, Product Development Team Chairperson at Morse Industries. "Our goal was to create a product that installs simply and is better looking, while holding up to the harshest of marine environments."
The installation of traditional rub rail contains many steps. After screwing the vinyl base into the boat, the builder aligns 12-foot stainless steel lengths around the boat avoiding any existing screws or rivets from the vinyl base installation. They then drill holes every 6 inches through the vinyl and hull/deck joint, making sure not to drill through any existing screw heads. The 12-foot pieces are aligned and carefully butted together for a tight fit. The excess stainless steel is cut and discarded. The builder then screws the stainless onto the boat, making certain screws are seated evenly for a consistent look.
In contrast, VirginRail© installs in three easy steps. The builder screws the vinyl base into the boat and the stainless insert snaps into place. Then, it is cut and butt for a final fit. There are no exposed screws and only one seam.
